Mabuhay Dive Center
I love to go snorkeling. I think that is evident by posts like this one here and this one here!
Mabuhay Dive Center in Dumaguete Philippines offers an exceptional experience that exceeded my expectations. For those like me who prefer a more laid-back and less “guided” snorkeling experience, the center’s protected dive area just offshore is a dream come true. Here, the vibrant coral reef are teeming with life, surpassing all of my initial expectations based on the location itself, which did not appear to be so exotic at first glance. From colorful schools of fish to fascinating marine creatures, the underwater world at Mabuhay Dive Center is truly captivating.
How to get to Mabuhay Dive Center
I recommed leaving early in the morning if possible to ensure you have the best time possible! Divers, tourists, and more will make their way to the site throughout the day and we had the best experience by ourselves between 7am-8am. The location is located in Dauin just south of Bacong and Dumaguete City.
Traffic can be funky on the way to Mabuhay in Dumaguete!
It does not take very long to get there and Google even puts it at about 21 minutes directly from the city, but be mindful of traffic. Some areas along the way are congested and it may take a little longer for you to get there. Once you reach J. Basa you will turn down a long paved street that will lead you directly to the site. Along the way don’t be suprised if you see mangos! They are literally all over the place here. You will likely even step on some as they grow wildly here!
What to bring to Mabuhay Dive Center
One of the standout features of the experience is the freedom to explore at one’s own pace. Unlike structured tours, you can enjoy the flexibility to roam freely and immerse yourself in the underwater paradise surrounding you. The diving experience is complimentary, and the staff at Mabuhay Dive Center are incredibly accommodating, readily assisting with any gear requirements.
I had some trouble finding fins that fit me and asked for them to grab another set at least 5 times and they were willing to help each and every time until we found a great fit. They have a large selection of masks and breathing tubes to choose from and will assist you in making sure you have the right equipment for you!
The convenience of the on-site gear washing station ensured that both pre and post-snorkeling cleanup was a breeze. They had soap stations and running water to help get the sand and whatever else you needed out of the equipment and your body!
Snorkeling at Mabuhay Dive Center
Once you are ready, you can freely head out into the water. The main protected areas with the most activity and coral are clearly designated and easy for you to find. At the time, the area was beeming with activity. Several large size schools of fish were in the area along with sea snakes and even some barracuda!
I was amazed by how alive the site was and how amazing it was to feel the schools of fish swim around my body. They did not seem anxious and were more curious than anything. The even more incredible part was that I did not seek this out! Typically I try to maintain a safe distance from wildlife, but they quickly circled me once I was in range. How cool!
Feel free to bring your GoPro with you to take some shots! I unfortunately did not have mine with me during this visit. I will be back soon though and will be updating this post with more photos and information as soon as I do!
Mabuhay Dive Center Food is delicious!
After an exhilarating snorkeling session, visitors can retreat to the covered outdoor seating area, where pre-ordered meals await. The kitchen at Mabuhay Dive Center boasts a diverse selection of dishes, catering to a range of tastes and preferences. From fresh seafood delicacies to mouthwatering local specialties, every bite is a delight to the senses. The majority of meals seemed to be Filipino or Korean at the time I visited with lots of noodles, chicken, and kimchi dishes available.
We had a wonderful outdoor seating spot next to the beach that allowed us to enjoy the breeze and dispersed the sound as our large party engaged in conversation. The dishes were all fantastic and ended up being too much for us and we ended up taking some home! The chicken was so delicious!
