I last visited San Pedro in September of 2023 which is considered the off-season for Belize tourism. Many of the establishments we visited were out of stock of most menu items and it was honestly a bit of a struggle to find what we were interested in and was mostly reduced to chicken and rice options. With that being said, there were a few restaraunts that stood out that I wanted to go over today. If you have the time to swing by the volcanic Apo Island Philippines on your next adventure, I totally recommend it. Not only can you really experience island life and walk among the amazing people of Apo Island, but you can also find some top-notch food and stellar diving experiences. Apo Island is a marine reserve located about 4 and a half miles off the southeastern tip of Negros Island. It is currently documented to have over 650 species of fish and 400 species of coral! There are two locations you can check out, Island Beach Resort and Liberty’s Lodge. In all of my trips to Apo Island so far, they have been on at the Liberty’s Lodge site. The Island Beach Resort area at Apo Island does offer a more private area if you prefer a secluded getaway, turtles included!

Mabuhay Dive Center in Dumaguete Philippines offers an exceptional experience that exceeded my expectations. For those like me who prefer a more laid-back and less “guided” snorkeling experience, the center’s protected dive area just offshore is a dream come true. Here, the vibrant coral reef are teeming with life, surpassing all of my initial expectations based on the location itself, which did not appear to be so exotic at first glance. From colorful schools of fish to fascinating marine creatures, the underwater world at Mabuhay Dive Center is truly captivating.
